About Me
This school year (2017-2018) will be my 13th year at Henryville Elementary. For those that don't know me, here is a little bit about me:
I am a graduate of New Albany High School, class of "1976". I am also a graduate of Indiana University Southeast, class of "2002" with my Bachelors degree and in 2008 with my Masters degree in Education. Going back a little farther in time: I joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from High School and completed 20 years of service in January 1997. I was stationed on several different types of ships and two shore stations during my 20 years of service. I have seen many countries and have experienced many things during that time. I have transited the Suez canal several times. I have seen the Pyramids, the Parthenon and many more sites in Europe and the Mediterranean Sea area. I have been to Germany and Ireland. I sailed the Great Lakes on a Navy ship and have been to the Caribbean many times as well as Central and South America.
I am married and have one son, two step sons, one step-daughter, four grand-daughters and three grand-sons.
Prior to my current position at Henryville I was the technology teacher/coordinator for three years at a Catholic Elementary school in Louisville, KY. I taught computers to kindergarten through eighth grades. I love technology and I love to share my knowledge with my students. I am very excited about teaching 5th grade and am looking forward to meeting everyone. If you have any questions for me you may contact me at this address.
I realize that teaching your child is a privilege as well as a tremendous responsibility. I will do my best this year to ensure that each student has a motivating and safe learning experience in the classroom. However, I cannot do this alone: I need your help. We both need to be partners in the learning process. I need each of you to encourage your child at home by helping to ensure that they have completed their assignments, and help them study for tests, if necessary.
I will keep you informed of all assignments and subjects that are covered in class by updating the Homework webpage each week and by updating our Daily Blog page. Your student will also be writing down the daily homework assignments in their planner.
I know with your help we are going to have a great year!
Sincerely,
Gary Norrington
I want to thank Mr. Coley for giving me permission to use some of his ideas for my website.
